Super Eagles set for CHAN – Oliseh

The Nigeria Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has express satisfaction with the performance of the home based Eagles team ahead of the Championship of African Nations, CHAN, in Rwanda this month.
Oliseh made the expression following the team’s 1-nil victory over fellow CHAN contender, Cote d’Ivoire in the final friendly match in Pretoria, South Africa.
According to Oliseh, the team has improved from their previous position.
“We are much more prepared now, at least judging from previous games. We are happy there are no fresh injury to worry about. To be candid, it was a good performance by the team. The three games have prepared the squad for the challenge,” he said.
Eagles defeated a Premier Soccer League side, University of Pretoria 3-nil, drew 1-1 against Angola before beating Cote d’Ivoire. The results means that Nigeria will be at this year’s CHAN with an unbeaten record.
The coach commended the Cote d’Ivoire match hero, El-Kanemi Warriors midfielder, Ifeanyi Matthew, whose solitary strike in the 45th minute gave the home-based Eagles victory. Oliseh maintained that Mathew’s performance has made him an integral player in the squad.
Expressing the team’s readiness to excel, Warri Wolves’ Oke Ogagotewho said the Cote d’Ivoire game has provided the necessary boost for the team. “The game against Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire proved to be very important to us ahead of the tournament. I believe the victory has prepared us for the challenges ahead because they are a good team,” he said.
Another team player, Bature Yaro of Nasarawa United explained that the Eagles would not be under pressure following their victory over the Elephants. Yaro also stated that the players have put a lot of effort and that what the team need was prayers from Nigerians.
“We are trying our best to achieve our goals, but what we need at this peroid is the prayers of every Nigerian to enable us shine in Rwanda. The confidence in the camp is very high, we can play any country in this championship, we are prepared,” he added.
The Sunday Oliseh boys will fly out to Kigali on Friday and will open their 2016 CHAN campaign against the Menas of Niger Republic in Kigali on January 18.
Nigeria will also battle with Tunisia and Guinea in the group phase of the competition, which kicks off on Saturday.
