Nigeria’s Minister of Federal Capital Territory,Muhammad Musa Bello, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the adequate arrangement put in place for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for the forthcoming FCT Area Councils election.
The Minister made this commendation on Saturday, after monitoring the Continuous Voter Registration in two centers, Garki and Wuse wards of the Federal Capital Territory.
Malam Bello who lauded the effective way INEC conducted the exercise, appealed for extension of the registration period due to the high turnout of prospective voters seen in all the centres visited.
“INEC needs to deploy more data capture machines to fast track the entire process, Bello appealed”.
While addressing the crowd waiting at the registration centres visited, the Minister appealed for patience; assuring them that everyone would be attended to.
The Minister who was later received by FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Shittu Ahmed Tata in his office, complained of some of the hitches he observed and called for adjustment to enable eligible voters get registered before the end of the exercise.
Responding to some of the issues raised by the Minister, Mr, Shittu Ahmed Tata assured the Minister that INEC was on top of the situation and that all the complaints highlighted would be addressed by the management.
The Minister and his entourage also witnessed the deployment of several new data capture machines as well as printers to the field by INEC officials in their office.
Some officials of the FCT Administration including the Acting Secretary of the Area Councils Services Secretariat, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, accompanied the Minister on the visit.
