SDP repositions to gain power in 2019

Yinka Salaam, Osogbo

Members of Social Democratic Party, (SDP) have been told to brace up to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress both at the national and state levels in 2019.

The chairman of the newly constituted SDP Executive Council in Osun State gave this challenge while addressing at the State Congress of the party in Osogbo, the state capital.

Chief Ademola Ishola said the newly invigorated SDP took a decision to spread across the federation and take over the mantle of leadership through its exemplary programmes, and socio-relevant manifesto, with a view to providing better alternative in terms of good governance.

Ishola who expressed optimism that SDP, despite its position among the opposition parties in the country would unseat the present government, however, saying such an ambition could only be achieved in a peaceful atmosphere.

“Party members need to cooperate with one another and work as a team in order to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) at the National and the State level.

This feat can be realised only if and when members of the party maintain party discipline at all time, respect the constitution and accept party supremacy.”

The newly elected Chairman further charged party members to be tolerant in the cause of working for the victory of the party.

Arms scandal

Debunking the alleged involvement of the National Chairman of the party in the $2.1bn arms procurement fund diversion, Ishola said Chief Olu Falae was paid money based on intra-party agreement after Chief Tony Anenih agreed to the three terms of the SDP and former president Goodluck Jonathan was adopted as the presidential candidate to be voted for by SDP.

Ishola stressed that at no time did the party have any link with the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

He explained that the terms put forward by SDP to PDP was that corruption and terrorism be halted; and that employment must be the generated and provided for the youths.

He also called out the state governor for failure to pay salaries and fulfil the obligation of government.

“For the umpteenth time, the party repeated the call on Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State to resign his position for mass sack of workers and inflicting suffering on Osun State masses through his administration’s obnoxious policies,” he said.

“The party also bemoaned Buhari’s administration for condoling the nefarious activities of the APC’s administration in Osun State. This is as the party accused Governor Aregbesola of pursuing projects for his personal gains,” he added.

A twenty three-man Executive Council include Mr Ademola Ishola as Chairman, Ganiyu Babatunde, Vice Chairman; Elder Agbefemi S., Secretary and Alhaji Kunle Kafsat as Tresurer among others.
