A former Nigeria Super Eagles coach, Daniel Amokachi, has penned a year’s deal with Finnish side, JS Hercules and will resume immediately with the team.
The Finnish second division side, through its official channel, announced that: “Hercules has signed an agreement with former Nigerian national team player and coach Daniel Amokachi.”
Amokachi, who was an assistant coach to Stephen Keshi when Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, will take over from former Hercules head coach, Pekka Haaren, who will continue as assistant coach.
The club said in a statement: “Oulu-based football club Hercules has signed an agreement with former Nigeria national team player and Coach Daniel Amokachi.
“The head coach for the previous season Pekka Haaranen will continue as assistant coach. Amokachi’s agreement with Hercules is one year.”
Hercules, which is based in Oulu, Finland, was recently promoted to the Finnish second tier at the end of last season.
The former Everton player had a short stint with Nigeria Professional Football League side, FC Ifeanyi Ubah after he left the Super Eagles job last year.
The 43-year-old has played in Turkey, England and Belgium and was also part of the Super Eagles team to the World Cup in 1994 as well as scooping the Olympic football gold medal with Nigeria in 1996.
The former Everton and Besiktas striker’s last job was as coach of FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
