A non-governmental organisation, Stop TB Foundation, in collaboration with the National TB program in Nigeria has appointed wife of the President, Aisha Buhari to champion the cause to control the disease among adults and children in the country.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Board Chairman, Professor Loveth Lawson, commended Mrs Aisha Buhari for accepting the appointment to help eradicate TB and promote the well being of women and children in the country.
According to Professor Lawson, the Stop TB Partnership identifies with the change agenda and commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, which aspires to build a strong economy and improve the health of Nigerians.
“We believe that with the leadership of Mrs Aisha Buhari in TB control, it will significantly augment the efforts aimed at controlling the spread of the disease among adults and children and ensure a TB free future for our children”, he said.
“Her acceptance to champion the course of TB control has attracted very positive commendation from national and international stakeholders working on TB,” he added.
Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, an affiliate of global Stop TB partnership, Geneva, is a multi-stakeholders partnership organisation comprising government, development partners, civil society organisations, private sector, academia and persons affected by TB.
