The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council has elected new Executive Council members that will steer the affairs of the union for the next three years.
The keenly contested election which took place at the NUJ press centre in Osogbo, was conducted in a very peaceful atmosphere.
The incumbent chairman, Biodun Olalere, of Osun Broadcasting Corporation(OSBC) defeated Oladele Ajayi, of Unique FM, Ilesha News to retain his position
Boladale Bamigbola of the National Mirror also defeated Babatunde Fanawopo of OSBC to emerge as the Secretary.
While Olalere was re-elected with 195 votes to defeat Ajayi, who scored 159 votes, Bamigbola won with 198 votes to clinch the secretary position, leaving Fanowopo with 161 votes.
Other elected members of the union are: Kehinde Ayantunji, Vice Chairman, Egbodofo Olusola as Auditor, Adebisi Alao for Treasurer and Awe Isaiah as the Assistance Secretary.
In his acceptance, Olalere promised to fulfil his electoral promises and make the welfare of the members his priority.
Oladele Ajayi who contested with the incumbent also promised to cooperate with the winner and the entire cabinet to move the Union forward.
The Secretariat was agog with celebration immediately after the swearing-in as members celebrated the hotly contested but peaceful, free, fair and credible election.
Men of the pen profession said the celebration was to give thanks to the Almighty who made the election come to pass without any record of violence.
