The national women’s basketball team, the D’Tigresses, have been drawn in Group B for the 2017 (FIBA) Women’s AfroBasket, with perennial rivals and defending champions Senegal one of their opponents.
They also have Egypt, Guinea, Mozambique and the representative of Zone 4 to contend with.
According to the official draw held on Saturday in Bamako, Group A has hosts Mali, 2015 hosts Cameroon, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire and Angola.
The last spot in the group has been reserved for a team which earns the wildcard.
The 12-team competition will take place from Aug. 18 to Aug. 27 in Bamako.
It also serves as a qualifier for the (FIBA) Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 holding in Spain.
The competition’s first phase will see a round-robin format, with every team taking on five opponents in their group.
The top four teams from each group will advance to the second phase which will be played in a knock out format, starting with the quarter-finals.
The third place and final matches will be played on the last day of the competition, Aug. 27.
