The 79th meeting of Nigeria’s National Economic Council, NEC, is underway at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo presiding.
The meeting, which commenced at the 11.00 am (local time), has 16 governors and 20 deputy governors in attendance.
Some of the issues expected to feature on the agenda of the meeting include Tuesday’s release of the second tranche of the Paris Club fund to the states and the recent order by the Acting President for the release of N1.6billion naira to states ravaged by flood in parts of Nigeria.
The Council may also look at the security situation in Nigeria as it affects the economy.
The National Economic Council is Chaired by the Vice-President and has Governors of the 36 states of the country, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Minister of National Planning, and Minister of Finance as members.
The NEC serves as advisory body to the President on the economy.
Also in attendance is Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
