The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has laid the foundation for the development of an industrial hub to enhance economic growth in Cross River State.
Professor Osinbajo, who is on a two day working visit to Cross River State, said the hub, which comprises the Cross River Garment Factory, CalaPharm, Rice City, covers more than 2000 hectares.
He commended the Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade for taking the initiative to establish industries, which would address the challenges of unemployment and boost the economy.
According to Professor Osinbajo “the industrial park is going to be a major industrial hub in Africa when completed. I am honoured to be at this ground breaking ceremony of this industrial park. I also commend you for this great initiative”.
Professor Osinbajo commissioned the Cross River Garment factory, which is expected to employ more than 3,000 women and youths, and also took a tour of the rice city that is still under construction.
Governor Ayade expressed delight over the second visit of the Acting President, describing the gesture as a show of love and support for the people.
He eulogized Nigeria’s Acting President for his humility and friendly disposition towards the people, who turned out in their numbers and arrays of colourful attires to welcome him.
Meanwhile, Professor Osinbajo paid a visit to the treaty King and Grand Patriarch of the Efik people and Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu the Fifth, where he sued for peace, unity and love.
“Cross River State is an integral part of Nigeria and every part needs the other. We are greater together than apart. When people speak of Nigeria, it is because of its diversity. Unity is absolutely important because God wants us to be united,” the Acting President said.
Professor Osinbajo said the country had been able to manage its diversity so far, pointing out that crisis was not a solution to the problems of the country.
He stated that the Nigerian Government was committed to the unity of the country.
“President Buhari’s Government will continue to work assiduously for the interest and development of all sections in Nigeria,” Professor Osinbajo concluded.
