Nigeria’s Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has extolled the virtues of the late Nigerian agriculturist, Dr. Barnabas Oloruntoba, describing him as a great Nigerian and a child of God.
Osinbajo spoke on Saturday at the funeral outing and thanksgiving service for the late Oloruntoba at the Second Evangelical Church of West Africa, ECWA, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Acting President said Oloruntoba served his country and his generation, pointing out that it was for that reason that he was among the 100 most significant personalities honoured during Nigeria’s centenary celebrations.
According to the Acting President, Oloruntoba, who was also conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Federal Republic, OFR, also served his family well, making all his children rise to great heights in society.
“Above all, he served God well, there is no way you can serve God without serving man,” he stated.
Professor Osinbajo said the late octogenarian would receive the rewards of his service to God and humanity, which are eternal life and blessings for his generation.
The Minister in Charge of the Second ECWA Church, Ilorin, Reverend J. S. Owoeye, reminded Christians that their life on earth was not permanent, making the quest for material acquisition futile.
He commended the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for the fight against corruption and for the introduction of whistle blowers, which has helped in the recovery of funds looted from the public treasury.
Reverend Owoeye prayed for the success of the Buhari administration in all its doing to make things better for Nigerians.
The late Oloruntoba, who was the father-in-law to the President of African Development Bank, ADB, and former Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, died on March 17 this year at the age of 88.
Dignitaries that attended the service were the representative of President of the Republic of Benin, Boni Yayi, Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, wife of former Vice-President, Mrs Titi Atiku Abubakar, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, among others.
