Acting President proposes amendment of 2017 Budget

Nigeria’s Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has proposed a virement of One Hundred and Thirty Five point Six-Five Billion Naira in the 2017 Budget signed into law in June.

In a letter to the two Chambers of the National Assembly, the Acting President said the Virement Proposal is to take care of critical priority items that were inadequately funded in the budget.

The letter read “Prior to the signing of the budget, discussions and consultations were held between the Executive and the leadership of the National Assembly on some critical priority items for which adequate provision had not been made in the 2017 Appropriation Act.”

Budget of fifteen Ministries and Departments including that of the Ministries of Power, Works and Housing, Transportation, Agriculture and Rural Development as well as Interior will be affected by the virement.

Other Ministries affected are, Defence, Education, Federal Capital Development, Health and the Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Ministries of Labour and Employment, Information and Culture, Communication Technology, Water Resources, Mines and Steel Development as well as Environment would also be affected.
