Addressing unemployment depends on quality education – Minister

Key to addressing unemployment and social vices in Nigeria depends on the provision of inclusive and equitable quality education.

Nigeria`s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu , said this in Abuja while declaring open a three day Workshop organised by the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, NIEPA on Leadership and Strategic Management for Senior cadres of theĀ  education sector.

The Minister also said that the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari recognises that educational system must prepare and equip the citizens to contribute effectively to national development.

“NIEPA has the mandate to build the capacity of education sector planners and managers at all levels.”

Adamu added that the security and stability of Nigeria depends on the ability of the country to provide functional education to her citizens.

He added that the Ministerial Strategic Plan on the Nigeria Education sector is to re-position the education sector to play it central role in the national reform and development agenda of President Muhsmmadu Buhari.

Speaking on the strategic leadership training, the Minister said that sector planners and managers need to acquire skills to update their function more effectively in line with the change Agenda.

He emphasized that participants after the workshop should have full grip of strategic management, analysis and implications for education for change.

The Director General of NIEPA,Professor Lillian Salami, said the workshop will impart skills and empowered participants to be millennium compliant.

“Such capacity building worshops cannot be overemphasized and NIEPA`s strength lies by not looking inward but also employing the use of exoerts and highly experienced external consultants to create a one stop shop for educational planners and administrators in Nigeria”
