Nigeria’s Bello Oyebanji has won two bronze medals at the maiden International Africa Para-Badminton Championships which ended in Uganda on Sunday.
Three athletes represented the country at the championships which began on April 26 in Kampala.
Samuel Ekeoma, President of the Nigeria Para-Badminton Federation, Oyebanji won the medals in the male’s singles SL3 and the double categories.
Ekeoma said that the athlete, who competed with more experienced athletes, was able to register the country’s name in the medals table.
“I’m delighted we won these medals even though we faced a lot of challenges before coming for the competition.
Like what I said before our departure to Uganda, it is not all about winning medals but exposure that the athletes would get when participating in competitions like this.
We hope we will have more support to feature in major competitions of this magnitude,’’ he said.
15 countries participated in the championships.
