The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Audu Ogbe, Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi have officially flagged off cashew plantation in Ogudu, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
During the inauguration, the Minister said the launching of the cashew plantation in the state was to facilitate the efforts of the Federal Government to diversify the nation’s economy.
He said that cashew plantation remains topmost on the agenda of the government, saying the next focus would be on cocoa and bananas.
Mr Ogbe said the flag off took off in Osun because it was the first to embrace the initiative.
He stressed that government wished to do same across the country.
The Minister noted that youths would be the beneficiaries of the laudable agricultural programmes, stating that the time has come to empower the youths and overcome the challenge of unemployment in the nation.
Responding, the Ooni of Ife described the day as a new dawn for the youths and urged them to embrace agriculture.
The Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola felicitated with the people of the area for the laudable programme, saying that the state has enough land for farming.
He then urged the Federal Government to consider the state in other subsequent programmes.
One of the farmers in Ogudu, Mr Sunday Felix expressed deep appreciation to Osun State Government for the contribution, promising that the farmers in the area would take care of the farm for the common good of the state.
