Nigeria Air Force donates relief materials to IDPs

Governments and other stakeholders around the world have been called upon to redouble their commitments to support Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Sadiq Abubakar made the call in Abuja, during the hand over of relief items from the Nigeria Air Force, NAF, to its wives association for onward delivery to the IDPs in the North east part of Nigeria.


Abubakar, who was represented by the Director Medical Services AirForce Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal, Saleh Shinkafi said “that the condition of the IDPs led NAF personnel to come together and decided to voluntarily donate seven million Naira Cheque and forty two items towards alleviating the suffering of IDPs”.

He said “the unfortunate situation according to the United Nations Commission of Refugees has rendered about two point five to three million people displaced from their towns and villages particularly in North east Nigeria.”

The AVM decried the situation of IDPs in various camps in the country, saying they needed urgent attention.

He added that, NAF had “been involved in combat and logistic support to Nigerian troops in operation against boko haram terrorists”.


The National President, Nigeria Air Force Officers Wives Association, NAFOWA, Hafsat Abubakar saidthat the association welcomed the presentation of this relief items for IDPs in the North-East by the Nigerian Air Force adding that the presentation came at the right time.”

She said “today’s generous donation by the Nigerian Air Force is indeed a welcome development; more so it’s an attestation of the vision of the leadership of the NAF at promoting good civil-military relationship within its operational environment.”
