The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has commended the efforts of Southern Governors wives forum in addressing challenges facing women and children in their region.
She stated this when Southern Governors wives, led by their Chairperson, Mrs Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, paid her courtesy visit in State House Abuja.
Mrs Buhari, who said she was instrumental to the formation of the Southern Governors’ Wives Forum, expressed delight at the existence of the group, which she said would help address some of the women and children issues that are peculiar to the region.
She said the forum was created to ensure a support system for Governors and to address the areas of girl child education, domestic violence among others.
“This is the first time to have the Southern Governors’ Wives Forum, in the history of the Governors Forum in Nigeria. The regions in Nigeria have peculiar differences and challenges that is why I insisted on having the Southern Governors’ Wives Forum,” she said.
The Wife of the President pledged her support for the Forum, as she sued for more unity among the Northern and Southern Forums to tackle women and children challenges across the country.
“Also I assure the Forum of the support of my ‘Future Assured’ initiative. We will keep working together with the 36 States and also the regional forums, to improve the lives of women and children,” the Wife of the President pledged.
The wife of Imo State Governor Mrs Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, said they were at the State House to brief Mrs Buhari on their achievements so far especially on issues of domestic violence and girl child education in the region.
Mrs Okorocha was accompanied on the visit to the State House by the wives of the Governors of the 17 Southern States.
