APC wins Kano re-run election

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Tasi’u Ibrahim has been declared winner of the Saturday re –run election in Minjibir local government area for the Kano State House of Assembly.

Announcing the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Professor Abu Muhammad Fagge from Bayero University, Kano, (BUK), said Ibrahim got 21,970 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Muhammad Auwalu Ubale got 1,238 votes.

The Public Relations Officer of INEC, Garba Lawal said candidates of 15 political parties participated in the election

INEC cancelled the by-election held on April 30 due to violence halfway into the election.

However, before the commencement of the polls, the PDP candidate announced that he had withdrawn from the contest.

The candidate who made the announcement on a Rahmah Radio programme said his action was on grounds that the All Progressives Congress, (APC), has deployed thugs with the intention to disrupt the poll.

INEC said it had not received an official letter from candidate in respect of the withdrawal.
