Nigerian Football Federation official, Ibrahim Abubakar has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday morning.
NFF made the announcement via its twitter handle.
The announcement also states that Abubakar’s remains will be taken to Kaduna State in the North West of Nigeria for burial.
”NFF’s Head of Protocol Ibrahim Abubakar was shot dead by armed robbers in his house in Abuja in the early hours of today.
‘Abubakar’s remains is being taken to Kaduna for burial.’
Details are yet to be known about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung was among the first callers at the secretariat of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, in Abuja on Wednesday to pay a condolence visit on the death Ibrahim Abubakar
Nigerian football family woke up to the sad death of Abubakar who was described as a peaceful man.
“We pray that the Lord will console the family he left behind, the NFF and the entire football family. May God grant him eternal rest. Amen,” Barrister Dalung said.
Former Arsenal and Portsmouth forward Nwankwo Kanu has offered his condolences via his twitter handle as we as other football officials and fans.
Before his death, Abubakar was the Head of protocol of the Nigeria Football Federation. He is survived by his wife and three children.
