Army ambushes boko haram terrorists, intensifies clearance operations

Troops of the 29 Brigade Quick Reaction Force (QRF), in conjunction with Civilian JTF have carried out an ambush against boko haram terrorists east of Marguba village in Kaga Local Government Area, Borno State.

According to a statement by the Army Spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, “the troops killed 2 of the boko haram terrorists, while some of them sustained gunshot wounds as could be seen from traces of blood during mop up. IMG-20160716-WA0037

They also recovered 1 AK-47 rifle with 29 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a bow and arrows, a Tecno mobile telephone handset, 1 wallet and an Identity Card of Animal Dealers Association, amongst other items”.IMG-20160716-WA0012

Colonel Usman also stated that troops along with Civilian JTF have continued clearance operations within Sambisa forest despite harsh climatic conditions and bad terrain occasioned by heavy down rainfalls especially within Gombale area.

IMG-20160716-WA0016“Despite bugging down of vehicles and equipment because of the bad terrain, the troops have continued with their clearance operations,” he explained.

In a related development, as part of the activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebrations (NADCEL) 2016, troops involved in live field training exercise code named “Exercise HARBIN KUNAMA”, have intensified patrol of the various forests in Zamfara State.

During one of such exercises, troops of 223 Battalion while on patrol encountered armed bandits at Madaka village, Maru Local Government Area in which they killed 9 armed bandits and recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, 2 AK-47 rifles magazine, 3 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 1 machete and 24 motorcycles.IMG-20160716-WA0033

Similarly, local vigilantes at ‘Yargada village, Gusau Local Government Area apprehended a fleeing suspected armed bandit and handed him over to troops deployed at Magami. Troops have also raided a bandit camp at Gangamai village in Dansadau Local Government Area.

“During the raid there was an exchange of fire between the troops and the armed bandits. Unfortunately, the bandits escaped with gunshot wounds. However, the troops recovered 2 Dane Guns bags containing marijuana (aka Indian hemp). Another team also carried out raid on cattle rustlers and armed bandit’s camp at Gidan Mai Jaja in Dansadau general area. Here, the rustlers and armed bandits fled on sighting the approaching troops abandoning 85 cows, 37 sheep and a donkey. Similarly, another patrol team also carried out a raid on a armed bandits and cattle rustlers camp at Gobirawan Kwacha where they killed 2 armed bandits and recovered a machete,” Colonel Usman explained.
