Association calls for peaceful Area Council Polls in FCT

The President of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Mr Micah Jiba, has appealed to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to desist from acts of violence during the forthcoming area councils Election.

The ALGON President and Chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Mr Micah Jiba, stated this in Abuja while congratulating Christians world over on the event of Easter celebration.

He said that the significance of the season is for every Christian in the world to show exemplary life of sacrifice that Jesus exhibited by donating his life for human race to be saved.

Commenting on the area council’s polls, the ALGON President expressed optimism that the election will be successful and free of violence in all the six Area councils of the territory.

Mr Jiba also noted that winning election at all cost had never produced free and fair election in anywhere in the world.

He advised the residents of the federal capital territory especially the youths to approach the election with the highest sense of maturity in order to ensure that credible persons are elected during the polls that would pilot the affairs of the area council in the next 3 years.

“We believe that with free and credible election people’s right will be respected and the masses will have reasons to smile out of their hard times when the new leader emerges after the poll.

“We will continue to work together for the benefit of the common Nigerians at the grassroots, in order for them to get the change they desire during and after the April election.

“I also want to appeal to contestants to always put the interest of Nigerian at heart, by ensuring that their supporters abide by the electoral rules, because most of them may not understand the consequences of their action until the law defines it for them.

“I believe that if the issue of peace is at the heart of every candidate contesting the election, then Nigerians will get the best from their  leaders and the electorate will no longer sell their votes and conscience for money,” he said.

The ALGON President therefore assured Nigerians that ALGON is ready to work with INEC, security agencies and FCT Administration to have a hitch free exercise during the April 9TH 2016 Area councils election.
