Ban Ki-moon commends release of 21 Chibok girls

The United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Ban Ki-moon has expressed his happiness over the release of the 21 Chibok schoolgirls in Nigeria.

Mr Ban said that he remained deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of the remaining schoolgirls and other victims of abduction by Boko Haram, who are still in captivity.

Mr Ban urged the international community, “to continue supporting the Nigerian government in its efforts to secure their release, rehabilitation and reintegration.”

He called for increased efforts to ensure additional humanitarian access in the north-eastern part of Nigeria and reiterates the continued commitment of the United Nations in this regard.
