An Educationist, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has commended the initiative of the Muhammadu Buhari administration for the government’s plan to reintroduce Teachers Training Colleges (TTC) in the country which according to him is the only institution or college for training and grooming effective academic teachers.
According to him, this will no doubt further improve the educational standard of the pupils which he observed is falling and therefore leading to producing half baked graduates.
Alhaji Baraje stated this in Ilorin while speaking as Chairman of the occasion at the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of the Ilorin Teachers College now known as Sheikh Abbulkadir College.
He stated that, “it would not only help to improve the quality of education but contribute greatly to having a better teacher education system in the country and save the sector from the quagmire that has bedevilled it over the years.”
The Educationist, who is an Alumni of the college and a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) lamented that since the abolishment of teachers training colleges the quality of the teaching profession has been gravely affected, creating hardship for the teachers and in turn reducing the skills of the pupils.
According to him, the present administration has also concluded plans to create a commission that will draft a method on how best the teachers training colleges will operate and meet up with international teaching standard.
Alhaji Baraje expressed the hope that professional teachers, who have the skills and knowledge would be involved in the resuscitation of the training colleges across the country and commended the founding fathers as well as pioneer students of Sheikh Abdulkadir College for the discipline they instilled in the school and urged them to continue to contribute their quota to the quality and infrastructure of the college.
He later promised to renovate the college mosque and provide toilets for the use of pupils and staff.
