Boko haram has been significantly decimated- Army Chief

The Nigerian Army says the callous terror group boko haram which brought untold hardship and wanton destruction of lives to the nation has been significantly decimated.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai made the remarks at this year’s Chief of Army Staff’s first quarter conference in Abuja.

General Buratai said troops have continued to fight insurgency with reinvigorated spirit and professionalism.

“I take pride to say that as I stand before you  today, the  callous terror  group  that brought wanton  destruction  and untold hardship  to our land  has been significantly decimated with all of you playing vital roles” he said.

He emphasised that the army takes very seriously the issue of Human rights violation and that’s why troops were being made to stick to the Rules of Engagements in its operations in the North- East.

“I have spared no efforts to ensure that troops adhere to the Rules of Engagements and respect for human rights while discharging their duties “ General Buratai added.

The Army Chief revealed that the Nigeria Army Aviation Corps was on course and would be able to acquire its own platforms soon to enable the corps kick off its operations effectively.

We have compiled list of platforms from Russian, American, and Chinese Origin. Emphasis was however on Russian Mi-17 due to its ruggedness, operability and multi –role capability.

He added that Nigeria Army had embarked on landmark initiatives such as housing projects to address critical accommodation challenges facing the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.

“Other welfare interventions have been on payments of entitlements to deceased personnel’s families’ sponsorship of deceased personnel’s children in school up to university level’’

Special Promotion

The Army helmsman initiated special promotion for gallant soldiers in Operation LAFIYA DOLE and review of disciplinary cases  among officers and soldiers saying that in line with his vision, value reorientation and exemplary leadership were key to achieving a highly professional Army the nation would be proud of.

 “The  Nigeria Army  will continue its relentless  endeavour  for effective  service delivery  through value  re-orientation , exemplary leadership , patriotism  innovation , high standard of training  operational efficiency and discipline”

The 2016 Chief of Army Staff First quarter Conference is for the top echelon of the force to take stock of their achievements in the last quarter and forge new ways of greater achievements in the future.
