Civil Defence, NigComSat partner to protect national infrastructure

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has partnered with NigComSat and Space Engineering, a division of the China Great Wall Corporation to provide sophisticated technological apparatus to aid security in the protection of national infrastructure, and in the rescue of personnel during critical crisis.

A statement from the Corp spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh stated that Dr. Muhammad Alkali, the Senior Manager Network Operations Centre of NIG COM SAT with their partner, Space Engineering, a division of the China Great Wall Corporation, paid a courtesy visit to the NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja.

Mr. Okey quoted Dr. Alkali as saying that “they have applications that can be deployed not only to monitor tankers, but also monitor the petroleum product even to the point of knowing the quantities loaded and the quantity supplied at whatever location nationwide”.

Alkali further stated that, there are other applications that have the capacity to monitor the movement of Personnel during the discharge of their duties, and in times of crisis they can send signal which can aid their rescue.

He explained that for the Government proposed ranches, they intend to use a Geo fencing application that can monitor activities inside and around them.

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi  Muhammdu, said “ The availability of these technological gadgets to aid security was a very welcome development.”

Adding that ” This will enable us deploy these facilities to very strategic and tough terrains to assist Personnel in carrying out their various assignments, and in the event of rescue of personnel and the civil populace in varying deep crisis situations, will make the work to be done very easy and good direction is gotten on how best to discharge their duties”.
