A fifteen-man committee that will spearhead the organisation of the 19th National Sports Festival was on Thursday inaugurated in Abuja by the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung.
The Committee is to be headed by Ohaa Chinyeaka and Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu as Vice Chairman with an additional one member to be nominated from the Sports Writers Association.
While inaugurating the committee at the Federal secretariat Abuja, Dalung said “the event is a landmark in the actualisation of the objectives of the National Sports Festival, with the main objective of promotion of keen and healthy competition amongst competitors under an atmosphere of sportsmanship and friendly interaction with a view to enhance and strengthen national unity.”
He disclosed that the host State for the 19th edition of the festival, Cross River State, led by its Governor has been putting in all efforts to ensure a most successful games with the timely delivery on the facilities for the festival.
Death of former coach
Speaking on the passing of former Super Eagle’s Coach, Stephen Keshi, the Minister said the ‘BIG BOSS’ (as he was known) came and changed the dynamics of the game of football.
“I received the devastating news of the death of this great Nigerian whose indelible foot prints on the shores of football both nationally and internationally will remain for a long time. It is a great lost to the nation and we have missed an icon, we stand with the Nigerians, the family and the sporting community at this time,” Dalung added.
