The Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, NEMA says it’s positioning for effective disaster management.
The newly appointed Director General of the Agency, Engr. Mustapha Maihaja made the submission when he resumed office on April 21, 2017.
Addressing the management staff, the Director General thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity, saying, “it is a call to service and work has commence in earnest”.
“I am taking over at a time Nigeria is faced with major emergency involving Internally Displaced Persons-IDPs, Meningitis ravaging various States and other challenges requiring urgent response from NEMA and concerted efforts with various agencies,” he said.
The NEMA Boss also said that within the next few days the agency would roll out an agenda for the activities of NEMA, especially in areas of prevention leveraging on globally accepted frameworks.
He, therefore, solicited cooperation of the staff and stakeholders to increase the momentum of disaster management in Nigeria, as well as set the pace for others.
Engr. Maihaja was born in Nguru, Yobe state on April 13, 1963. A graduate of Electrical Engineer from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Kaduna and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
