Emir of Kano urges more focus on agriculture

The Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi II, has urged the three tiers of government in Nigeria to focus on agriculture to boost food production for local consumption and exportation.

The Emir made the call during his traditional Eid-el-Kabir message after the Eid prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground in the Kano city, state north western Nigeria.

Emir Sanusi said the call to focus more on agriculture had become necessary because it could provide the needed job opportunities to the teeming number of unemployed youths as well as ensure food security in the country of more than180 million people.

Against this background, the spiritual leader called on the three tiers of government to construct more dams across the country to enhance dry season farming for massive production of cash and food crops.

‘’Constructing of more dams which will enable the nation to be at par with  most of the developed countries since they have for  long stopped depending only on wet season farming, ‘’ stressed the Emir.

He urged wealthy Muslims to support the less privileged in society in order to alleviate their sufferings especially during the current economic recession in the country.

Sanusi called on Nigerians to continue to pray for economic growth and development in the country irrespective of their religious beliefs and political inclination.

The Emir of Kano, despite the more than normal heavy down pour that started in the early hours of the morning before the schedule timed for the Eid prayer, made it to the Kofar mata mosque in his black coloured rolls Royce.

Not many of the usual dignitaries and massive population were at the Eid ground because of the heavy down pour.

The Eid prayer was conducted peacefully across the various Eid grounds .
