Enugu State Government in Eastern Nigeria says it is putting finish touches to its preparations to host the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super-4 tournament in Enugu.
The state’s Commissioner for Sports, Charles Ndukwe, said that government was also working to ensure a hitch-free and successful hosting of the top clubs in the country.
He said that the ministry was ensuring that every fitting and lightening system was in perfect condition at the stadium; especially the flood light and the generating sets.
“Apart from the technical finishing and update we are ensuring at the stadium; we are also looking at the possibility of putting some local entertainment and flavour for the relaxation of the teeming football fans.
“We have arranged and invited special guests, including our amiable and sports loving governor, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as well as other governors of the South-East and beyond.
“We are also inviting legendary football stars, especially those in ex-Rangers Club to add personality and spectacle to the tournament as well,’’ he said.
According to him, the local ad-hoc committee for the tournament is daily tinkering on new ideas to add colour and lasting memories to the tournament.
Enugu state government has agreed to host the tournament, which will hold between Dec. 7 and 12 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Four national clubs: Rangers International FC of Enugu, Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi and Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi will participate at the tournament.
The League Management Company (LMC), the tournament’s organiser, has released fixtures for the six-day soccer fiesta.
Wikki Tourists FC and FC Ifeanyi Ubah will play in the opening game of the 2016/2017 NPFL Super-4 competition which will begin on Dec. 7.
The day’s second fixture at the competition venue will be between NPFL champions, Rangers FC and runners-up, Rivers United from
