The Chairman of Enugu State Football Association (ENSFA), Eastern Nigeria, Chidi Offor-Okenwa has said that the much awaited Enugu State Sports Festival, tagged “042’’ will commence on November 2.
Offor-Okenwa said that the festival would feature 12 sports, including football, tennis, volleyball, basketball and traditional wrestling. Others are weightlifting, table tennis, handball, golf, track and field event, boxing and taekwondo.
He said the festival suffered several postponements due to circumstances beyond the organisers’ control.
“The first date of the festival was Oct. 10 but it could not hold owing to some circumstances beyond the organisers’ control.
Again, there is a recent postponement from Oct. 24 to Nov. 2, 2016 due to the civil service week in the state,’’ he said.
Okenwa said that the festival would hold in the three senatorial zones of the state between Nov. 2 and Nov. 16 for zonal eliminations, while the finals would hold on a date to be announced later. The chairman said that the event would hold in Enugu East Senatorial Zone between Nov. 2 and Nov. 5 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. In Enugu West Zone the competition will hold from Nov.7 to Nov. 9 at Awgu Local Government Council. And for Enugu North Zone, it would hold between Nov. 14 and Nov. 16 at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). “This festival is purely for discovery of talents at the grassroots and we are going to ensure that only those within the age brackets of 13 and 20 years participate in the competitions,’’ he said.
