Contractors handling the maintenance of streetlights in Abuja have been warned to both sit up and fix them or have their contracts terminated.
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Musa Bello, gave the warning in Abuja during an emergency meeting with the contractors handling the projects, led by the Acting Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Hajiya Safiya Umar.
Bello said that the FCT Administration would not condone any further easy-going attitude from the contractors as they either perform or face outright termination of their contracts.
He added that, the FCT Administration was not owing the contractors as it had met all the contractual agreements by paying them their entitlements.
“Our payments are up to date and therefore we expect effective service as no street in any part of the city should be in darkness, when there is electricity supply by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company,” he emphasized.
The Administration also wrote official warning letters to all the contractors to show the seriousness it attaches to the efficient functioning of streetlights in the city.
Bello warned the supervising officers in the Department of Facility Management and Maintenance on the consequences of not effectively supervising the contractors.
