FCT Minister wants review of Abuja laws

 Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello

Nigeria’s Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Muhammad Bello has called for the review of the FCT laws.

Mr. Bello said that most of the laws have become obsolete, thereby making the running of the Abuja city difficult.

He spoke when the Acting Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission,  Mr. Kefas Magaji visited him in Abuja.

”There is need for the review of these laws and make them more stringent for FCT administration to effectively cope with the influx of people into the city… Again, when the laws are more stringent, offenders are made to face the consequences of their actions thereby serving as deterrent to others,” the minister stressed.

The acting Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reforms Commission, Mr. Kefas Magaji said that laws must to be reviewed every 10 years to conform with the present reality.

Mr Magaji stated that the Commission last reviewed the FCT laws in 2006, adding that the laws were due for further re-evaluation to conform with the time.
