FCTA debunks outbreak of bird flu

Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

The Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration has debunked the report that there is an outbreak of Avian influenza (Bird flu) in the territory.

The Acting Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development in the FCT, Dr. Musa Aliyu stated this in Abuja while briefing Journalists.

Dr Aliyu reacted to an earlier report in the national dailies that, there is an outbreak of the disease in seven states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

While urging the public to disregard such report and continue to eat chicken without any fear of the disease, Dr. Aliyu also enjoined residents of the territory to alert the Secretariat if they notice something.

He then warned poultry farmers against illegal vaccination of birds, describing such approach as a deadly alternative to the control of the disease.

The States listed in the earlier report include Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, Nasarawa, Plateau and FCT.
