In a bid to instil high maintenance culture and improve transport infrastructure, the FCT Administration has commenced massive rehabilitation of roads within the Federal Capital Territory.
The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, who disclosed this while on an inspection tour of some of the portions of roads being rehabilitated and re-surfaced around the National Assembly Complex, directed the Federal Capital Development Authority to ensure that bad roads in other districts of the city are urgently fixed especially during this raining season.
Malam Bello commended the FCDA and Arab Contractors, handling the projects for the prompt rehabilitation of the access road linking the office of the Secretary to the Government Federation to the National Assembly Complex. The Minister also lamented on the state of the road whenever it rains.
He lauded the drainage system introduced on the road to redirect storm water into nearby streams to prevent flooding of the main access road.
“Time permitting, we will continue with this kind of interventions, so that all the roads would be maintained in its highest standard Abuja is known for”, he added.
Also speaking during the inspection, the FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr. Adamu Ismaila said that the road was in deplorable state for a very long time before the Minister instructed the Authority to make sure it is rehabilitated and put it in order.
“What we are doing as you can see, before there was no adequate drainage leading to this place. We are providing drainage right from the National Assembly junction up till this junction at the SGF office and all the first portion of the road, we are getting them repaired,” he added.
A representative of the firm handling the work, Arab Contractor Nigeria, Mr. Selsayed Elawady, while welcoming the Minister to the project site, said that the company was passionate in doing the job to elongate the lifespan of the road.
According to him, the company also decided to plant ornamental trees along the road to give it a special feature and add beauty to the whole environment.
