Federal cabinet meeting shifted to next week

The weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council has been shifted to next Wednesday.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity,  Garba Shehu announced  this to State House correspondents, in Abuja.

He said the Easter break was the main reason for the postponement, as the Secretariat could not prepare memos on Tuesday when they resumed, and circulate them the same day.

“The staff on the Council secretariat resumed on Tuesday after the Easter. There was no time to prepare and circulate memos to ministers.

By practice, the ministers receive council memos two or three days ahead of meetings because they must read them and sometimes undertake research. It is not a rubber stamp council so everyone must prepare,” he said.

The Special Assistant said the Council would reconvene on Wednesday,  April 26 by 10 am at the usual venue, the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

When asked why the documents were not circulated before the holiday since the secretariat knew before hand that there would be a holiday, he explained that as human beings, they also needed the break.

The Presidential spokesman strongly denied that the cancellation was related to President Buhari’s state of health, saying “it would be wrong to make such assumptions. That will not be fair.”
