The Federal government says its committed towards ensuring an effective and serviceable public service delivery.
The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Oshibanjo, represented by the Permanent Secretary, office of the Federal Head of Service, Chinyeaka Oha stated this during a National stakeholders’ conference on public service delivery in Nigeria which was organised by the House of Representative committee on government affairs in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria.
The Acting President explained that, considering the longtime inefficiency and corruption facing the public offices in the Country, which had affected effective service delivery till date, the Federal government has initiated different strategies to solve the prevailing problems.
He recalled that, President Muhammadu Buhari has also issued three executive orders on the 18th of May, 2017 on promotion of transparency and efficiency in business environment, submission of annual budgetary estimate by statutory and non-statutory agencies to address problems in the public service.
In his keynote address, Kaduna state governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i said organising such conference is apt considering how government at all levels are redefining service and revising legacy of long years opportunity, incompetence, waste, underperformance and corruption in governance.
He emphasised that government at all levels are facing similar challenges and calls for continuous self assessment of the systems, structures and staffing to understand the challenges as well as identify areas for improvement.
Governor El-Rufai stressed that public service should be governed by a coherent service charter with well articulated performance target and appropriate sanction for failure.
He congratulated the House of representative committee on government affairs; SERVICOM and African Study Center for bringing stakeholders in public service delivery together.
