The Nigerian government is set to embark on a “Buy Nigeria Campaign”, to promote and put Nigerian products, goods and services in the front burner and encourage people to patronise them.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who disclosed this, also urged Nigerians to imbibe the habit of energy conservation to compliment the effort of government in fixing the power sector.
The Minister said this when the Engineer Florence Seriki of Omatek Technologies led her team to his office to demonstrate the innovative technology of energy conservation by the company.
However, the Minister told the team that it was important to embark on some sort of advocacy and enlightenment campaign on energy conservation because a lot of people don’t even know about it.
“One of the major problems with our energy consumption is our habits. A lot of people in Nigeria waste energy without recourse to the consequences. A lot of buildings have been gutted by fire simply because some appliances were left on when they were supposed to be switched off.
“As an indigenous product and technology, we are going to support it .We are soon going to embark on ‘Buy Nigeria Campaign ‘, so all these will be propagated because the idea is to patronise Nigerian products.”
Engineer Seriki noted that one of the starting points of this innovation should be an enlightenment campaign. “People must be aware of the advantages of using LED bulbs for example, people should be aware that when appliances are not in use, they should be switched off”.
According to Engineer Seriki, the idea was to assist government in the area of power which has been a challenge over the years. She said in as much as government is investing in power there was need for energy conservation which could be put back to other uses.
She then called for a partnership arrangement with the relevant government Ministries Department and Agencies with a view to achieve the energy conservation campaign.
One of the technological concepts was the usage of low energy consumption bulbs, usage of solar inverters among others.
