FG inaugurates governing councils for 12 new Federal Universities

The Federal Government has inaugurated governing councils for 12 new Federal Universities.

Inaugurating the Council Members, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said in the era of Change, Universities in Nigeria must begin to set the pace in financial probity and moral discipline.
The Minister also said that the 8% allocation to the education sector from the 2016 budget requires all stakeholders’ roles to demonstrate prudence and honesty and to ensure that education becomes the real cornerstone of Nigeria’s national development.

“The lion share allocated to the education sector in the year’s budget and is the highest allocation ever, we must therefore play our roles with demonstrable honestly and prudence to ensure that education becomes the real cornerstone of Nigeria’s national development”

Adamu tasked the Council members to seek other sources of funding and provide logistical support for the universities. He added that Federal government is committed to tackling challenges facing the countrys education sector.

On the mandates of the Governing Councils, the Minister said their roles are paramount and therefore should create and maintain atmosphere of peace.

“We must play all our roles with demonstrable honesty and prudence to ensure that education indeed becomes the real cornerstone of Nigeria’s national development”

“Issues of funding and financial discipline are perennial problems in the development of our universities ”

“you must seek other sources of funding and logistical support for the universities”

He charged the governing councils to set policies that define direction while also diversifying sources of funding.

Responding on behalf of the new governing councils, Gbemi Saraki, pledged that the members will give real service, sincerity and integrity to the appointment.

“We consider the appointment a privilege and we will improve the quality of our tertiary education”

The Chairman of the governing council for Federal University, Oye Ekiti is Professor Saidat Mobadeje, Federal University Birnin Kebbi is Lawrence Ngbale,federal university of Dutse, federal university Dutsin ma Dr Marliyya Zayyan, federal university of Gashua Dr Lawan yahuza, federal university of Gusau Professor F.T Bikersteth, Federal University of Kashere Garba M.Gadi, federal University of Lafia Professor Munzali Jibril, Federal University Lokija Professor Nimi Briggs, Federal university Ndifu Alike Professor Mba Uzoukwu, Federal University Otuoke Gbemisola Saraki, federal university Wukari Ahmed Uba Nana.
