Five Al-Shabaab militants have been killed and dozens injured during an operation carried out by Somali national army and the African Union troops near Afgoye town in Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia.
Spokesman for African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Joe Kibet confirmed the deaths of the five Al-Shabaab militants.
“The operation which led to deaths of Al-Shabaab militants occurred at a checkpoint manned by the terrorist organization,” Kibet said.
Local officials also said that no civilian was injured during the operation.
Al-Shabaab had not made any comment on the latest military onslaught.
Somali national army and AMISOM troops have intensified the war against Al-Shabaab in central and southern parts of the horn of the African States since March.
