Sports in Nigeria is taking a new dimension as it is set be part of school curriculum.
The Minister of Sports and Youth development, Solomon Dalung said focus will be on grassroots sports, by engaging the ministry of education to return sports to school.
Dalung was speaking at the unveiling of the new concept for the
Taslim Balogun National Stadium, Lagos.
“Sport is an important part of national development a major determinant of foreign reserve, and a source of job creation. If you do not invest in sports you are investing in crime.
Various state governments must take the issue of sports very serious
because it will help in bringing stability and taking restless youths out of the life of crime”, Said Dalung.
According to the Sports Minister, it was necessary to give the Lagos stadium the best possible measure to see that it looks like a world standard sporting facility.
The Director General, National Sports Commission, Alhassan Alhasan said so far the report received serves as diagnoses for the state of the stadium adding that now that the problem has been identified, the next step is to find ways of solving it.
