German President conferred with honorary citizenship

Germany President Mr Joachim Gauck has been conferred with honorary citizenship of Abuja by the Minister of Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello.

While receiving the visiting President, who was on a 5-day state visit to Nigeria, the Minister described Abuja as the symbol of national unity of the country.

He said that, the honour has been bestowed on the visiting President as a mark of respect for the strong friendship and cordial relationship between the people of Nigeria and Germany.

Mallam Bello said “the key to the City of Abuja confers on him the Honorary Citizenship of Abuja, with all the rights and privileges”.

The German President, Mr. Joachim Gauck, who led a strong delegation of German Government and businessmen to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, appreciated the honour done to him.

The President said, Nigeria and Germany have long standing diplomatic relationship that should be further strengthened for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

He stated that they are in Nigeria to hold bilateral discussion with President, Muhammadu Buhari for the desired mutual benefits for the two nations.
