The Gombe State Government has distributed palliatives to more than one thousand cooperative societies in the state, to create wealth.
Speaking at the official distribution in Gombe, the Commissioner, Ministry of Cooperative, Yusuf Manu Swa, said the palliatives would reach 2, 105 beneficiaries of cooperative societies, of which most are business oriented.
Swa explained the palliatives to the women were free grants of ten thousand naira to each beneficiary, with the aim of enhancing their businesses.
The Gombe State Commissioner of Cooperative said the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the Ministry would go round all eleven local governments to ensure the judicious use of the items.
“The items are not for sale, but for use by cooperative societies to boost our economy and strengthen the desire for which they are established. All the eleven area officers are responsible for the supervision of the utilization of the items. The Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the ministry should design to ensure adequate utilization,” Manu Swa said.
The palliatives that the Gombe State Government distributed were 115 sewing machine, 50 grinding machine, 20 water pump, 120 clippers and 1,800 palliatives to women.
The Chief of Staff of the Gombe State Government House, Ahmed Yayari, who represented Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, said the items distributed were meant for the empowerment of the Cooperative Societies, which are drivers of the economic growth of any society.
According to the Commissioner of Cooperative in Gombe State promised the people of Gombe State that by 2019, virtually all cooperative societies would be reached under the free distribution of palliatives.
Apart from the cooperative societies, the Nigeria Prison Service in the state had also been given some incentives specifically for use by the inmates, while a sewing machine is to be used for the skills acquisition programme being carried out in the prison.
The Police Command in the state also got items for five police cooperative societies.
The representatives of both the Prison Service and Nigeria Police thanked the Gombe State Government for the kind gesture and pledged to make good use of the items.
