Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC has set up a committee to articulate what the party means by restructuring.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Abdullah said this was one of the resolutions reached at the monthly meeting between the party’s National Working Committee and Governors at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

In recent times, there has been a public outcry from different groups for restructuring of Nigeria’s federal system.

Mr. Abdullahi said the committee, which is to be headed by the governor of Kaduna State, is not to set up modalities for restructuring but rather define what APC means by restructuring.

“What we are talking about is a committee that will articulate what APC means by restructuring because we have realized that over a couple of weeks now, when people use the word restructuring, we are no longer sure that they are talking about the same thing and people have gone about saying APC promised restructuring so we need to sit down as a party and develop a shared understanding of what we mean by restructuring in our manifesto. It is not a committee to set up modalities for restructuring,” Mr. Abdullahi said.

The ten members of the committee are: Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-rufai (Chairman); Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; Governor of Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong; Governor of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and former Governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbo.

Others are: APC National Organising Secretary, Sen. Osita Izunaso; APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; Hajiya Fatima Bala and Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (Secretary).

Also after the meeting, while addressing journalists, the Governor of Zamfara State, Governor Abdulaziz Yari said Nigeria’s Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo would meet with the party members to discuss different issues including the party’s midterm National Convention.

“We have agreed collectively that we will meet with the acting president. Tomorrow he will perform the function of Vice President and chairman of NEC and the entire issue of security, economy and administration lies on him and we are going to meet him for other related issues as well as the issue of convention.”

The party has already started the processes that will lead to a convention by holding congresses in the various states, this Saturday.

Governor Yari also said that the party had decided to include the principal officers of the National Assembly in the monthly meetings between the governors and National Working Committee.
