The Nigerian Governors Forum has commended the Customs Service for adequately checking the activities of smugglers.
Chairman of the Forum, Mr Abdulazeez Yari said the efforts of the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service have helped in controlling rice importation, thus boosting the sale and consumption of local rice.
Mr Yari said this while briefing Journalists at the end of the Governors meeting in Abuja.
He said the 36 State governments resolved to continue to collaborate with the Customs, to achieve the country’s goal of self sufficiency in rice production.
“Members commend the Customs Service and pledged to collaborate with it to ensure that Nigeria achieves the target of self sufficiency in rice production by 2018,” he said.
