The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mr. Ahmad Aliyu, says immunization of children against polio and child killer diseases remains the major remedy for the health challenges in Nigeria.He spoke at the monthly meeting of the state Task force Committee on polio eradication and improvement in routine immunization coverage.
The deputy governor stressed the importance of immunization against the current outbreak of Meningitis in some local government areas of the state and he lauded the relentless efforts of members of the committee towards ensuring a healthier state.
Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale, said “The current meningitis outbreak affected many states in the country, including Sokoto. Happily ,however , with the efforts of the state government towards combating the ugly situation, the number of meningitis cases has drastically dropped.
The state government had mobilized adequate free drugs and medical personnel, for the treatment of patients across the state.
Nigeria has in the preceding months to now been facing the challenge of controlling the outbreak of Meningitis in some parts of the country. However, with the help of both local and international bodies, the government is getting positive results in tackling the situation.
