Italian Prime Minister given honorary citizenship in Abuja

The Prime Minister of Italy, Mr. Matteo Renzi has been presented with a key to the city of Abuja.

Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, also conferred an honorary citizenship of Abuja on Mr.Renzi.

The Minister made the conferment on Monday at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after receiving the Italian Prime Minister, who was on a day state visit to Nigeria. 

The Minister, who welcomed the Italian visiting Prime Minister to the city, described Abuja as the symbol of national unity of the country.

 According to the Minister, “the key to the City of Abuja confers you the Honorary Citizenship of Abuja, with all the rights and privileges”.

 He also explained that the honour has been bestowed on the visiting Prime Minister as a mark of respect for the strong friendship and cordial relationship between the people of Nigeria and Italy.

The Italian Prime Minister, Mr. Matteo Renzi, who led a strong delegation of the Italian Government and people, accepted the honour.

He noted that Nigeria and Italy have a long standing diplomatic relationship that ought to be strengthened for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

 According to him, “ we are in Nigeria for a day visit to have audience with the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari”.
