Nigerian journalists have joined other journalists in the world to celebrate the World Press freedom Day.
To commemorate the day, the Executive Director of Media Rights Agenda in Nigeria, Edeatan Ojo has asked the government and its agencies to make information more readily available to journalists whose duty it is to inform the public.
Mr Edeatan said that despite the Freedom of Information Law in Nigeria, gaining access to information is still a problem.
He blamed the reluctance of government agencies to provide adequate information to ignorance of the provisions of the law.
The theme of this year’s Press Freedom Day is ‘Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms with a rider – This Is Your Right!’
