The Kaduna State Security Council unanimously agreed to ban the sale of petroleum products in jerry cans across the twenty three Local Government Areas of the State.
The Council based its decision on legal and security considerations, compounded by the environmental hazard petroleum products in jerry cans can cause.
In a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, it was stated that the Council appealed to citizens to remain patient considering the difficulties imposed by the current petrol scarcity.
It assured the public that the state government is working with the NNPC and other agencies to reduce the hardship associated with the shortages of petroleum products.
“Council has observed that the unsafe handling of petroleum products during periods like this results to fire incident which ends up in destruction and fatal consequences for innocent victims, the statement read”.
The Council further warned those engaged in sabotage and illegal sale of petroleum products in the State to desist with immediate effect and it also directed the arrest and prosecution of any one found violating the ban with outright confiscation of any petroleum products found in their possession.
