The Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed into law, a bill to establish the State Rural Community and Social Development Agency.
The agency is to serve as a mechanism which the state Government will collaborate with Federal agencies, Local Governments, Donor agencies and communities to accelerate sustainable developmental social services.
Speaker of the Kaduna state House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Shagali said the agency would improve the socio economic condition of the people at the grassroots level by promoting prompt delivery of services geared towards poverty reduction in the state.
The Speaker explained that the agency will also encourage and increase the capacity of communities to participate in community development project and the maintenance of such projects after completion.
The agency is empowered to formulate policies and strategies for effective implementation of projects geared towards poverty reduction through agriculture and also creating enabling environments for micro, small and medium enterprises to succeed.
The law states that the agency is expected to collaborate with Local Government Council and communities to accelerate sustainable development in areas of Agriculture, Education, Health, infrastructure, water and sanitation, gender equality and business development.
Other activities of the new agency will include rendering advisory service and support to local communities, government, individuals and businesses where necessary.
