Kaduna State Government signs two bills into law

Asma’u Halilu, Kaduna

Governor Nasiru El-Rufai has signed the tax codification and consolidation bill and the pension reform bill into law.

While signing the bill, he said the tax law enacts a comprehensive all in one tax code in the state which would harmonise and centralise the collection of all revenue in a single agency, the new Kaduna state internal revenue service.

The governor said the bill is aimed at improving revenue in the state and making payments easy and also raising the efficiency of tax collection

“Henceforth, no Local Government in the state or any other agency other than the Kaduna Internal Revenue Service should approach any individual with the purpose of collecting tax Levis,” he warned.

While commenting on the pension reform bill, he said only contributory pension system offers a sustainable package for Government and pensioners alike.

“If this pension issue is not addressed, by 2025 the entire Kaduna State Revenue would be spent on payment of pensions. Presently, pensioners in the state after retirement are subjected to painful and wasteful pension system,” he explained.

He said in less than nine months, 20 bills have been sent to the State Assembly to help reshape the default socio economic environment suffered in the State.
