Kaduna United FC says it has recruited 15 grassroots players to strengthen the team ahead of the 2016/2017 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The club’s media officer, Jide Bodunde, on Thursday in Kaduna said that the players would join the 13 players retained from the 2015/2016 season.
“Kaduna United FC has maintained its policy of recruiting grassroots players to strengthen the old players. Five of the players were promoted from the feeder team,’’ Bodunde said.
He added that the club would be kitted by a firm, (OWU) Sports, adding that 28 players would be registered for the season.
According to him, the club will work hard to gain promotion to compete in the professional league.
“Our outing this season is to gain promotion to the professional league and competes to win.
Last season, we did well but came third on the table and missed the promotion with four points.
Eight of our players got transferred to play in the professional league with other clubs.
The clubs were Niger Tornadoes, Lobi Stars, Plateau United FC and Demo Stars while three players moved to other (NNL) clubs like Kogi United and Jigawa Golden,’’ he added.
Bodunde added that the club had been engaged in friendly matches with clubs in the professional league in preparation for the season.
“We have played friendly matches with clubs like Wikki Tourists, Rivers United, Niger Tornadoes, Nassarawa United, Kano Pillars and other grassroots clubs.
We are ready now to play in the National League season and compete favourably,’’ he explains.
Bodunde also said the club had produced its own bottle water Kaduna United fresh water and established a beverage store to boost its revenue.
“We are also planning to open a restaurant soon to improve the finances of the club as well,’’ he said.
